Castries, St. Lucia
Castries is the capital of St Lucia. It is a popular cruise port and the largest city on this Caribbean island. St Lucia is one of the furthest east islands in the Caribbean and is due north of Grenada and Trinidad & Tobago. The island is the home to a pair of dramatically tapered mountains, the Pitons, on its west coast.
This Caribbean island is the birthplace of Arthur Lewis, winner of the 1979 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics, and Derek Walcott, winner of the 1992 Nobel Prize for Literature.
The weather is fairly sunny all year around. Carnival is held in July and Calypso singing competitions are during June and July. Festival of Lights is on December 13th and celebrates Saint Lucia, which the island is named after. The country’s New Year’s celebration is called Square and is held the first two days of the new year.

Getting around Castries
The local airport is Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), which is about an hour’s drive to Castries.
Keiwa says that, if you’re staying downtown, there’s no need to rent a car. Uber and Lyft are excellent ways to get around. And I’ve personally found the downtown area very walkable.
