I’m really excited to interview Esteban Gutiérrez of EDASI about Monterrey, Mexico. Esteban’s tips for the best things to do in Monterrey are awesome because he was born in Monterrey, then left for Europe to begin his Formula 1 racing career. Monterrey serves as his home base as he travels the world to race. It is known as the city of mountains, and Esteban loves hiking on the local trails every chance he gets.

Getting around Monterrey
The local airport is Monterrey International Airport (MTY), which is about a 45-minute drive to downtown. Use our Expedia tool below to find flight, hotel, and rental car options.
Esteban recommends renting a car, so visit Avis, Budget, or Hertz for the best rental car offers. If you’re uncomfortable renting a car, Uber and Didi are excellent ways to get around. Public transportation is limited to two above-ground rail lines (about 30 to 40 stops), which can be good for select travelers.

Who is Esteban Gutiérrez?
Esteban Gutiérrez was born with a passion for motorsports and began watching professional races with his father at an early age, telling his dad that one day he’d be racing, too.
After beginning his professional racing career at 14 years old, Gutiérrez has built an impressive sheet of accolades that include earning Formula BMW Rookie of the Year Honors in 2007, becoming the youngest Mexican driver to win an International Championship after winning the Formula BMW Europe title in 2008 at age 17, achieving a seventh place finish at the Japanese Grand Prix in 2013 while competing at the Formula One World Championship level, as well as his impressive appearance at the Mexican Grand Prix in 2016.
In 2018, Gutiérrez transitioned his career from racing professionally at the Formula 1 level to joining Mercedes as a development driver. Working for one of the most valuable brands in the world inspired Gutiérrez to begin looking for his own business opportunities. He realized there was no formal distributor of F1 merchandise in Latin America, so he founded his official F1 merchandise platform, EDASI, in 2019 to fill that void. In 2022, EDASI officially accelerated to the U.S. market.
With EDASI’s goal to build a community among racing enthusiasts, EDASI has continued to inspire a new generation of young people to achieve their dreams and live boldly with passion. “EDASI,” Estonian for “moving forward,” is a word that resonated with Gutiérrez as it signifies the ups and downs of his own personal and professional journey.
Today, Gutiérrez’s primary focus is now on building EDASI to become a global platform for motorsports while also racing six times a year, representing Mercedes in Formula One and the Inter Europol Competition team in the World Endurance Championship. He is also currently a Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Brand & Business Ambassador.
