The Battle of the Flowers parade at the Fiesta San Antonio

San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio is most famous for the Alamo, but there is so much more to do in the city beyond this historic battle site. The Riverwalk is a must-do and while you’re there, keep an eye out because you might see people doing yoga on the river, find a hidden speakeasy, or discover amazing food that you can’t find anywhere else.

The city is very walkable but try to visit in the Spring or Fall to avoid the hot summer temperatures. In April, San Antonio hosts the Fiesta, which started in the late 19th-century and is the biggest party in Texas. This 10-day festival hosts many events, including a Battle of the Flowers parade, and honors the battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto.

We share a lot of resources and local suggestions in today’s podcast, but you should also check out Visit San Antonio, the local convention and visitor’s bureau. They are a wealth of information and can help you plan an itinerary based on your time, budget, and interests.

Getting around San Antonio

The local airport is San Antonio International Airport (SAT), which is about nine miles north of downtown.

Jessica says that, if you’re staying downtown, there’s no need to rent a car. Uber and Lyft are excellent ways to get around. And the VIA Metropolitan Transit bus system is pretty great. When we visited San Antonio, I’ve personally found the downtown area very walkable.

If you only need a car for a couple of hours, you can rent by the hour with Zipcar. Join now to get $25 loaded into your account.

Big thanks to today’s podcast sponsor – Dosh Cash Back app

You know how much I like using miles and points when I travel, but using rewards isn’t always an option due to blackout dates or when the hotel requires too many points for our stay.

That’s why I’ve been loving Dosh’s new hotel booking functionality. Their rates are extremely competitive and there are over 600,000 hotels to choose from around the world.

Best of all, you can earn up to 20% cash back per night! That’s cold hard cash in your pocket that you can use for anything. With all the travel I do, I’ve quickly earned a significant amount of money which I’m using to pay down our mortgage and save for the future.

Go to WeTravelThere.com/dosh to download the Dosh cash back app today and start booking your hotels. Plus you can get cash back at 1000’s of merchants they partner with. Use the promo code “TIMMY” for a little something extra when you open your free account.
