Getting around Beijing

The local airport is Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), which is about a 30-minute drive into the city.  Use our Expedia tool below to find flight, hotel, and rental car options.

Austin says you shouldn’t rent a car when visiting Beijing because the roads are packed with pedestrians, scooters, and other vehicles. Plus, there are numerous rules about license plate numbers that most tourists won’t understand or know about. If you must rent a car, click here for the best offers from Avis, Budget, or Hertz.

The Beijing subway is an excellent way to get around. Twenty main lines provide access to most of the major attractions you’ll want to see. The only major exception is the Great Wall, which travelers can easily book a tour to visit.

DiDi is a rideshare company that is similar to Uber and Lyft. However, you should avoid using it during commuter hours. During those times, the wait time and fees can be very high.
