Mazatlan, Mexico

Mazatlan is located on the West Coast of Mexico. It is directly across the Gulf of California from Cabo San Luca, another popular tourist destination. The city was founded in 1531 by an army of Spaniards and indigenous settlers. It is now a thriving seaport and is known as the best place for seafood in Mexico. Beer lovers will recognize the city as the home of Pacifico Brewery, which was founded in 1900.

We share a lot of resources and local suggestions in today’s podcast, but you should also check out Go Mazatlan, the local convention and visitor’s bureau. They are a wealth of information and can help you plan an itinerary based on your time, budget, and interests.

Getting around Mazatlan

The local airport is Mazatlan International Airport (MZT), which is only a 20-minute drive to the tourist zone of Mazatlan.

Carlos says that there’s no need to rent a car. The city’s public transportation is inexpensive and easy to use. Uber and Lyft are also excellent ways to get around. If you need to rent a car, click here for the best offers from Avis, Budget, or Hertz.

And the local pulmonias are a fun way to explore the city. They’re like a bigger version of a golf cart. You can even hire them by the hour as your personal ride.
