I’m really excited to interview Cameron Huddleston, an author and personal finance journalist, about Bowling Green, Kentucky. Cameron’s tips for the best things to do in Bowling Green are awesome because she was born in Bowling Green and returned when her husband landed a job teaching at Western Kentucky University. She loves that the pace of life is slow, the people are friendly, and the cost of living is affordable.

The Paul Reinhart Corvette at the National Corvette Museum

Bowling Green, Kentucky

Bowling Green is located in Southern Kentucky and is the 3rd-most populous city in the state. It is the home to Western Kentucky University and many popular attractions. Visitors often come to explore the caves (Mammoth Cave National Park, Lost River Cave), enjoy Hot Rods minor league baseball, or visit the National Corvette Museum.

You’ll find all four seasons in Bowling Green, and it can get quite cold in the winter. Cameron suggests visiting in the spring, summer, or fall. Spring comes early, so plan for an April visit to catch the flowers in bloom. Summer is great because there are concerts in the park and numerous festivals. Beech Bend Amusement Park and Campground is also open during the summertime. The Bowling Green International Festival happens every September and the Apple Fest at Jackson’s Orchard is a Labor Day tradition.

We share a lot of resources and local suggestions in today’s podcast, but you should also check out Visit Bowling Green Kentucky, the local visitor’s bureau. They are a wealth of information and can help you plan an itinerary based on your time, budget, and interests. The kids and I visited Bowling Green in December 2020 and had a blast.
