The Cleveland skyline and bridge

I’m really excited to interview Kevin Payne of Family Money Adventure about Cleveland, Ohio. Kevin’s tips for the best things to do in Cleveland are awesome because he’s been in Cleveland since he was a teenager. He loves how real Cleveland, how much history there is in town, and how the city embraces its rough edges. The city has everything you’re looking for in a big city but still maintains the small-town feel.

Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland is in northern Ohio and is located on the shores of Lake Erie. To sports fans, the city is known for its pride in its awful sports teams. Until Lebron James led the NBA Cavaliers to a basketball championship in 2016, the previous major championship was in 1964. Even though it took 50+ years to win another championship, the people of Cleveland remained die-hard fans. That says a lot about their character and loyalty to their hometown teams.

Kevin says that Cleveland can go through 2 to 3 seasons in one afternoon. He recommends visiting in June or July for the best weather. Interesting events throughout the year include the Duck Tape Festival, Twins Days Festival, the Cleveland National Air Show, and the Cleveland International Film Festival. The Cleveland Orchestra is world-renowned and performs at Severance Hall and Blossom Music Center.

We share a lot of resources and local suggestions in today’s podcast, but you should also check out This is Cleveland, the local convention and visitor’s bureau. They are a wealth of information and can help you plan an itinerary based on your time, budget, and interests.

The local airport is Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE), which is only about a 15-minute drive to Downtown Cleveland.

Kevin says that you don’t need to rent a car, but it is useful to get around. The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority has both buses and a rapid transit system to get you where you want to go. Uber and Lyft are excellent options as well.
