Best things to do in Dublin Ireland - Sidewalk Safari - The Schoolhouse Pub

Enjoy a fresh Guinness at The Schoolhouse Pub

I’m really excited to interview Jennifer (aka Dr. J) of Sidewalk Safari about Dublin, Ireland. Dr. J’s tips for the best things to do in Dublin are awesome because she grew up in the U.S. and moved to Dublin in 2010 to take advantage of a career opportunity. She thought it would just be for one year, but she loved it so much that she’s been here for more than a decade.

Getting around Dublin

The local airport is Dublin Airport (DUB), which is a 25-minute drive to Dublin. The Air Coach bus is less than 10 Euros per person from the airport and drops you off in the middle of the city. Use our Expedia tool below to find flight, hotel, and rental car options.

Dr. J says that you should not rent a car in Dublin. When I visited in 2015, we used public transportation everywhere we went. The Luas light rail and the DART train are also great ways to get around the area. You can get a Rambler card for 5 days of unlimited bus rides for 33 Euros. The Leap Card is good for unlimited rides on the bus, Luas, and Dart for 10 Euros per day or 40 Euros for the week. If you prefer a taxi, Dr. J recommends the FreeNow App.

The only time we left the city was with a tour bus that took us to the Giants Causeway on the northern tip of the country. If you want to travel outside of the city, take the train, book a tour, or rent a car. For the best offers, visit Avis, Budget, or Hertz.
