New York City, New York

New York City is the city that never sleeps. And many famous songs have been written about the Big Apple, including several iconic songs by Frank Sintra. NYC is known for so many incredible tourist attractions, like Times Square, Broadway shows, Madison Square Garden, the 9/11 Museum, and the Statue of Liberty. There are five boroughs within New York City and you could spend more than a week exploring each one. Check out our episode on Brooklyn featuring Michael W.

Leslie says that September is her favorite time of year to visit because it offers consistent, perfect temperatures. Even though it can get cold, Thanksgiving and Christmas are also great because of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and all of the holiday decorations. Times Square is packed on New Year’s Eve, but Leslie says that all New Yorkers know to avoid that part of the city on that day. During your visit, check out a pizza tour to sample some of the best pizzas that New York has to offer.

We share a lot of resources and local suggestions in today’s podcast, but you should also check out NYC GO, the local convention and visitor’s bureau. They are a wealth of information and can help you plan an itinerary based on your time, budget, and interests. When you visit, buy the New York CityPASS. It will save you 44% on the top six New York City attractions, including the Empire State Building, Top of the Rock Observation Deck, ferry access to the Statue of Liberty, and the 9/11 Museum.

Getting around New York City

There are several airports that serve the New York City area. The airport that best suits you is based on which airline you are flying. Leslie tends to fly through JFK and Newark the most.

Leslie says that you should not rent a car when visiting New York City. NYC drivers can be quite aggressive and intimidating. Plus, parking is difficult to find and is incredibly expensive.

Public transportation is great and there are taxis everywhere. Uber and Lyft are also excellent ways to get around. Part of the beauty of visiting New York is walking around the city and exploring.

For quick trips or a bike ride around Central Park, look into Citi Bikes. They are an affordable bike-sharing service with hundreds of locations around the New York City area.

If you need to rent a car for business outside of the city, click here for the best offers from Avis, Budget, or Hertz.

If you only need a car for a couple of hours, you can rent by the hour with Zipcar. Join now to get $25 loaded into your account.

Big thanks to today’s podcast sponsor – Bask Bank

Earning airline miles is how my family travels all over the world. These miles help us visit many of the destinations heard right on this podcast. Most of my miles are earned with credit cards, eating out, and online shopping. But now there’s a new way to earn American Airlines AAdvantage miles with your savings account.

Bask Bank is the only savings account that earns American Airlines AAdvantage miles instead of interest. I like that there are no minimum balance requirements and no monthly service charges. Plus, there are limited-time bonus offers to earn even more miles. Think of all of the places you can fly with the airline miles you can earn.

Go to WeTravelThere.com/baskbank for all of the details or read this detailed review of the Bask savings account that I wrote. Member FDIC
