Getting around Salem
The local airport is Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), which is about ten miles from downtown. Depending on when you arrive, it can be anywhere from a 20-minute drive to more than an hour due to traffic. To get to Salem, you can take the 450 Line bus from Congress & Haymarket Station or you can take the Newbury/Rockport commuter rail from North Station. The train takes about 30 minutes and $8 per person each way (or $10 for unlimited rides on Saturday and Sunday).
Boston Harbor Cruises offers a ferry from Long Wharf to Salem during the summer and fall. It’s $8 one-way or $16 for a round-trip on the commuter ferries (7 am to Boston and 5:30 pm to Salem). Otherwise, it’s $25 per person each way.
Kate says that it’s a good idea to rent a car if you’re traveling for vacation. For the best offers, visit Avis, Budget, or Hertz.
