Getting around Tacoma
The local airport is Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA), which is a 35-minute drive to Tacoma. Use our Expedia tool below to find flight, hotel, and rental car options.
Peggy recommends renting a car when you visit Tacoma. While you can get by with a bus (Seatac Express 574) or rideshare from the airport, you’ll need a car if you want to visit Mt. Rainier National Park and some of the other local attractions. Check the latest deals from Avis, Budget, and Hertz, for the best rental car offers.
The free Tacoma Link Light Rail is a good option for staying within the city core. Uber and Lyft are also excellent ways to get around.

Who is Peggy Cleveland?
Peggy is an experienced writer who specializes in travel and human interest stories. A trip across the country in a Pontiac station wagon at age nine sparked her lifelong love of travel. A passion for travel has taken her to 49 states, Europe, the Caribbean, South Korea, and Australia. She loves to share tips from my almost 50 years of touring and write about topics such as cruises, road trips, couple getaways, and trips with your favorite gal pals.
She currently lives in the Pacific Northwest, one of the country’s most beautiful areas. Her work can be found in Northwest Travel and Life Magazine, 253 Lifestyle Magazine, and other regional print publications. She also writes for Travel Awaits an online travel website for the over 50 travel audience. Peggy’s book “100 Things to Do in Tacoma Before You Die” by Reedy Press is available on Amazon, and you can support Peggy and this show by using our affiliate link to buy it.
