I’m really excited to interview Paul McDougal of Travelness about Tbilisi, Georgia. Paul’s tips for the best things to do in Tbilisi are awesome because he’s a full-time travel writer who lived in Georgia for many months, and he loves going hiking in the local mountains with dogs from a nearby shelter.

Tbilisi, Georgia
We share a lot of resources and local suggestions in today’s podcast, but you should also check out Georgia Travel, the local visitor’s bureau and Tbilisi City Hall. They are a wealth of information and can help you plan an itinerary based on your time, budget, and interests.

Getting around Tbilisi
The local airport is Tbilisi International Airport (TBS), a 20-minute drive from Tbilisi. Use our Expedia tool below to find flight, hotel, and rental car options.
Paul says that renting a car is a good idea when traveling to more remote areas within Georgia. For the best rental car offers, visit Avis, Budget, or Hertz.
However, you don’t need one if you’re staying within the main part of the city. Public transportation within the city is excellent and affordable. There are city buses, a metro train and minibusses available. And the Blue bus #337 from the airport is only 1 GEL (approx 37 cents).
Uber and Lyft are unavailable in Georgia, but other rideshare apps like Bolt (formerly Taxify) and Yandex are. Taxis are also very affordable.

Paul McDougal is a travel writer and freelancer for Travelness. Originally from the UK city of Newcastle, he’s a digital nomad who hates the term digital nomad. He’s traveled in almost 60 countries, and he’s lived in Vietnam, Serbia and Georgia (he’s still living in that last one).
He likes laughing, hitchhiking, and having absolutely no idea what’s going on. When he’s not writing about traveling, he’s usually looking at a map, going to bed early, or doing too much exercise.
