Getting around Queenstown

The local airport is Queenstown Airport (ZQN), which is about a 10-15 minute drive to downtown. Use our Expedia tool below to find flight, hotel, and rental car options.

Lyle and Leanne say that if you’re staying downtown and plan to stay right in the local area, there’s no need to rent a car. But, if you wish to travel outside of Queenstown to explore local attractions, then you should rent one. For the best rental car offers, visit Avis, Budget, or Hertz.

Who are Lyle and Leanne McCabe?

Lyle and Leanne are a retired couple from Australia who are traveling the world one wine and podcast at a time. They love to really explore each place they visit and find all the best and unique and sometimes surprising things in each city, town or village.

They share their fun travel stories on their podcast Beach Travel Wine. They include stories from snipers in Italian allies, discovering (almost secret) medieval wine villages in Spain, swimming underground in Mexico, skiing with eight grandchildren in New Zealand, and giant jumping man-eating crocodiles in Australia.

Lyle and Leanne also visit many wine regions and love sharing the best wine and food to eat – including Tuscany in Italy, La Rioja in Spain, and many around New Zealand and Australia. Their podcast is for people with a sense of
humor and adventure.

When they are not traveling, they love spending time with friends and family at the beachside apartment on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
