Getting around Arusha
The local airport is Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), which is about an hour away from Arusha. Use our Expedia tool below to find flight, hotel, and rental car options.
Scott says that most visitors do not rent a car. They are typically picked up by their tour operator or trekking provider. Or you can take a taxi for around $50 to $60. The usual rental car providers, like Avis, Budget, or Hertz, do not operate in Arusha.
Public transportation is limited to long-distance buses and short-distance minivans (dallah-dallahs) that are usually crammed with people. For most tourists, this experience won’t be enjoyable… especially while carrying your luggage.

Who is Scott Brills?
Scott is an international entrepreneur and adventure capitalist, currently focused on making his mark in the travel and tourism space. Having started his adventure and business career at the age of 19 in the field of IT and web development, he has since traveled to nearly 100 countries and has started companies in six of them along the way.
Currently focused on adventure tourism in Tanzania and food tourism in Japan, Scott spends upwards of half of the year on the road developing his companies.
