Tyson has lived in Cairns for almost 30 years and loves the city’s laidback, tropical lifestyle. He says that Cairns is very easy to get around and most people are within 20 minutes of each other in every direction. Today, we’ll talk about the Great Barrier Reef, ziplining over crocodiles, and why the local mangos are so delicious.

Cairns, Australia

Cairns is known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. It is in the northeast corner of the country and is part of the Queensland province. The weather can be hot and humid in the summer wet season (December through February), while the peak tourist season is June through August. Tyson recommends visiting between April and September.

We share a lot of resources and local suggestions in today’s podcast, but you should also check out Tourism Australia, which the local convention and visitor’s bureau. They are a wealth of information and can help you plan an itinerary based on your time, budget, and interests.

Getting around Cairns

The local airport is Cairns Airport (CNS), which is only about 10 minutes from the city. It will cost you about $10 to take an Uber from the airport to downtown. Use our Expedia tool below to find flight, hotel, and rental car options.

Tyson says that, if you want freedom and flexibility while exploring, you should definitely rent a car. Keep in mind that you’ll be driving on the left side of the road in Australia.

Who is Tyson Franklin?

Tyson Franklin is a former podiatrist who consults with other foot doctors to help them improve their businesses. During his career, he has opened, sold, taken over and relocated well over 20 podiatry businesses throughout Queensland.

Wanting to share his business knowledge to an even greater audience, Dr. Franklin launched the “It’s No Secret with Dr. T” podcast. Although his main focus is podiatrists, most of the strategies can be implemented by any business. What I like most is that he takes anecdotes, success stories, and tactics from unrelated fields and distills the information down into lessons that anyone can implement.
