Getting around Calgary
The local airport is Calgary International Airport (YYC), which is about a twenty-minute drive to downtown.
Tom says that, if you’re staying downtown, there’s no need to rent a car. Scooters and bikes can also be rented in the downtown area. The CTrain Light Rail system can get you to attractions that are further out, like the Zoo and Science Center. And there’s also the urban tramway and buses for inexpensive options. Download the Calgary Transit App to check the schedules and buy your tickets.
Uber and Lyft are excellent ways to get around when you’re in a hurry.

Who is Tom Drake?
Tom Drake is the founder of the Maple Money blog and personal finance podcast. He’s a financial analyst for a major grocery retailer and started his website in 2009 to share his money experiments. While some of his stories are Canada-specific, most of the money lessons can be applied to anyone from around the world. Additionally, his writing has appeared in print in Money Magazine and Canadian MoneySaver. He’s also been featured or quoted in The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Money Sense, Reader’s Digest, Candian Living, Inc., and Forbes.
He’s a father of two active little boys and he’s always looking to reduce expenses to make the most of his money. Tom’s goal is to continue building his business to the point that he can retire from his day job to spend more time with his family.
