Songwriters Fest, Fantasy Fest & Sunset Celebrations in Key West, Florida with Victoria

Best things to do in Key West Florida Victoria Greene Smathers Beach

Steps away from the sand and water at Smathers Beach

I’m really excited to interview Victoria Greene of TORsAdventures about Key West, Florida. Victoria’s tips for the best things to do in Key West are awesome because she fell in love with the city while visiting to escape the cold. You know Key West has to be amazing if it can convince someone to drop everything and move there after two quick visits! Victoria loves the year-round weather and incredible sunsets. The weather is so great that her first apartment even had an outdoor shower.

Key West, Florida

Key West is located at the southern tip of Florida. It is one of the many islands that make up the Florida Keys. It is Florida’s southernmost point and is only 90 miles from Cuba. Key West is famous for its pastel-hued houses and well-known for spectacular diving among its many coral reefs.

When you visit, September is typically its hottest month, but the weather tends to be great year-round given its proximity to the Caribbean. Throughout the year there are many festivals for visitors to enjoy, such as the Key West Songwriters Festival and Fantasy Fest. Sunset cruises are especially popular among locals and visitors. Victoria says that there’s a local tradition of a sunset celebration every night at Mallory Square.

We share a lot of resources and local suggestions in today’s podcast, but you should also check out Key West Chamber of Commerce, the local convention and visitor’s bureau. They are a wealth of information and can help you plan an itinerary based on your time, budget, and interests. My friends Joe & Sharon live in Florida, and they wrote this article detailing what is and isn’t open in Key West as the city emerges from coronavirus shutdown.

Getting around Key West

The local airport is Key West International Airport (EYW), which is about a 15-minute drive to downtown. Victoria says that Delta, American, United, and Silver are the four airlines that fly into the airport. Once you arrive, it is very easy to grab a taxi or shuttle from the airport to your hotel.

Victoria says that you should avoid driving if you can. Parking is tough because Key West is so small (about 2 miles by 4 miles). Uber and Lyft are excellent ways to get around, but most people ride bikes to get from one place to another on the island.

Who is Victoria Greene?

Victoria is a full-time photographer and (in my opinion) takes some incredible photos. I enjoy following her on Instagram to pick up tips on how to shoot better shots while I’m traveling. Although her given name is Victoria, all of her friends call her “Tor” for short. Tor is always adding to her photo collection while traveling, but she’s also a photographer for hire for family photos, professional headshots, and more. She also offers complete marketing packages and branding strategy consultations for business owners.
