I’m really excited to interview Alex Hildebrandt of SUYO Pisco about Lima, Peru. Alex’s tips for the best things to do in Lima are awesome because he was born in Lima and is the co-founder of Suyo Pisco, an artisanal liqueur that’s a local favorite. His family still lives in Lima, and he frequently visits for business and to enjoy the food, culture, and geography.

Getting around Lima

The local airport is Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM), which is about a 30-minute drive from Lima. Use our Expedia tool below to find flight, hotel, and rental car options.

Alex does not recommend renting a car in Lima. Traffic is horrendous and finding parking is not easy. However, if you decide to rent a car, visit Avis, Budget, or Hertz for the best rental car offers.

Uber is very common, and taxis are easy to find. Alex does most of his travel via Uber, and he walks frequently when in Miraflores and Barranco.

If you want to take public transit, buses are fairly cheap. You can wave down a bus at any point on the main road, but it’s recommended to look for areas where a lot of people are already waiting.

Lima also has The Metropolitano, a public transit system with special bus lanes that only stops in designated spots. Additionally, you can take the Tren Electrico, an electric train that has one line and about 16 stations.
