I’m really excited to interview author Karen Cordaway of The Everyday Bucket List podcast about New Haven, Connecticut. Karen’s tips for the best things to do in New Haven are awesome because she was born and raised in New Haven. She loves being close to the water while still having the big city of New York just 90 minutes away.
New Haven, Connecticut
We share a lot of resources and local suggestions in today’s podcast, but you should also check out Visit New Haven, the local visitor’s bureau. They are a wealth of information and can help you plan an itinerary based on your time, budget, and interests.

Getting around New Haven
The closest airport is Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN), which is only five miles from New Haven. However, the only airline currently serving the airport is Avelo Airlines, which only flies to six Florida destinations from this airport. American Airlines used to offer daily, nonstop service from Philadelphia, but it was canceled in September 2021.
That means that the best airport to fly into New Haven is Bradley International Airport (BDL), which is about an hour north of the city. If you don’t want to rent a car, Karen recommends using Shuttlefare to book a ride to New Haven.
Karen says that, if you’re staying downtown, there’s no need to rent a car. However, if you want to rent a car, click here for the best offers, visit Avis, Budget, or Hertz. You can also use Uber and Lyft to get around without worrying about renting a car.
When you only need a car for a couple of hours, you can rent by the hour with Zipcar. Join now to get $25 loaded into your account.
