I’m really excited to interview Chris Avery of Chrave Technology about Surrey, England. Chris’ tips for the best things to do in Surrey are wonderful because he was born in Surrey and has lived his entire life here. He loves living in the countryside and how safe it is to raise a family. There are many outdoor activities to do. Plus, London is just a short ride away when you want to experience the big city life.

Surrey, England
Surrey is a county with a collection of small towns. The county is located southwest of London, adjoining the River Thames. It is a place full of nature and greenery with about 22% of its geography covered in woods. Box Hill has the oldest untouched area of natural woodland in the U.K. and is one of the oldest in Europe.
The county is home to 1.2 million people and is considered a wealthy county. It has the highest GDP per capita of any English county and has some of the highest property values outside of London. Surrey is said to have the highest proportion of millionaires in the U.K. The average wage in Surrey is boosted thanks to the number of locals who work in financial services.
We share a lot of resources and local suggestions in today’s podcast, but you should also check out Visit Surrey, their official tourist board. They are a wealth of information and can help you plan an itinerary based on your time, budget, and interests.

Getting around Surrey
The local airport is London Gatwick Airport (LGW), which is only 20 minutes to the center of London by high-speed train and 45 minutes to Surrey by car. Use our Expedia tool below to find flight, hotel, and rental car options.
Chris says that, because Surrey is a county made up of lots of small towns, you definitely need to rent a car. There is public transportation available. However, most of the attractions you want to see are off the beaten path and public transportation will not take you there. To rent a car, click here for the best offers from Avis, Budget, or Hertz.
