I’m really excited to interview Katrina Julia of Fit Life Creation about Bacalar, Mexico. Katrina’s tips for the best things to do in Bacalar are awesome because she is a global traveler that loves to experience new cities in far-off places. Katrina spent two weeks in Bacalar for a sponsored trip and loved the slower pace of life, beauty of the lagoon, and friendliness of the people.

Getting around Bacalar
The local airport is Cancun International Airport (CUN), which is about a 4-hour drive to Bacalar. Katrina suggests flying into Cancun and then taking an ADO bus to Bacalar. Use our Expedia tool below to find flight, hotel, and rental car options.
In 2023, Tulum is opening an international airport, which will offer a much closer option than flying into Cancun.
Katrina says that, if you’re staying in Bacalar for your entire trip, there’s no need to rent a car. However, if you decide to rent a car instead of taking the bus from Cancun, these are the best offers from Avis, Budget, or Hertz.
