Getting around Gosport

The local airport is Southampton Airport (SOU), which is about a 35-minute drive to the downtown area. A water taxi and the Gosport ferry are fun and convenient ways to get across the bay to Gosport.

If you fly into London, taking a train to Portsmouth is one of the best options if you don’t want to rent a car. For people who prefer to rent a car, these are the best offers from Avis, Budget, or Hertz.

Who is Tim Heale?

Tim Heale spent most of his adult life under the Colours in the British Army from being an infantry soldier to being an experienced PSYOPS Operator on 7 operational deployments, which provided some awesome opportunities. He played a lot of rugby and his position was at scrum-half. Tim skied telemark and competed several times at the British Telemark Championships. He was a Hang Gliding Instructor and played American Football for the Milton Keynes Pioneers. Tim is a reasonably-experienced offshore sailor and has owned 3 boats and sailed around the U.K. with his wife and Artie, the ship’s cat.

He spent his last 8 years in the Army as a Unit Welfare Officer for London Central Garrison. And Tim took part in all the Ceremonial duties in London during that time. Now, he’s retired and spends his time podcasting and vlogging about the committees of the Portsmouth & Gosport History Group and Hornet Services Sailing Club. His third podcast season is all about Ordinary People’s Extraordinary Lives. The idea is to leave a legacy for future generations so they will know what life was like in our times. Imagine if you died without telling your life story, it would be lost forever. Series five of his podcast is a chat about anything and everything, where nothing is off the table. Tim hosts a live stream on a Thirsty Thursday from 7 pm until 9 pm GMT every week.
